Dark Before The Dawn Retreat 2022

​​Dark Before The Dawn aims to create a safe, inclusive environment for Black healing through a multifaced approach. This approach includes holistic, cultural, and integrative wellness practices and modalities.

The retreat will take place from September 16th - September 19th 2022 at Zajac Ranch, Mission, BC (Unceded S’ólh Téméxw (Stó:lō) & Kwantlen territory).

What is included:

• Shuttle bus transportation to and from the retreat (departing from Science World/Main Street Station)
• All your food, beverages & snacks for the entire duration of the retreat (meals are afro-vegan)
• Lodgings of your choice (dormitory, private room, cabin etc)
• All organized activities and workshops (applicable to your age group)

What is not included:

• Bedding - linen rentals are $25 for the weekend or pack your own sleeping bag, towel, pillow etc.
• Yoga mat - we have approximately 45 mats available to borrow, but you may prefer to bring your own
• Life jackets - please pack one for yourself or your children if you are not a strong swimmer
• Activities/care for children under 5 years of age.

The past two years have been tough. As a community, we've had a lot of ups and downs, but the darkest part of the night is the moment just before dawn begins to break.

The time has come to focus our energy on healing and building well-being in our own community. The time has come to begin thriving.

Black identity is complex.

Black people are not a monolith. How people experience and embody Blackness varies from person to person. Where we are at in our individual life path determines our capacity.

At Dark Before the Dawn, we recognize that healing is non-linear.  We believe that healing is dependent on autonomy – the ability to choose a healing path that is right for you.

This is why we are providing options and opportunities to try different healing paths out. Every offering at this retreat is invitational. From mindful and intentional movement practices to somatic healing, community conversations, cultural exploration, and a variety of therapeutic modalities there is something for everyone. This year we are excited to extend healing further into our family by providing age-appropriate programming for youth ages 5 and older.

Attendees can pick and choose the activities they want to participate in, or just spend time building meaningful friendships, cultural connections, taking mindful walks/rolls in nature, swimming in the lake, and enjoying fresh, nourishing food.
